POMONA JUNETEENTH JAZZ FESTIVAL BRINGS IN INDUSTRY ARTISTS
POMONA, CA - The 20th Annual Pomona Valley Juneteenth Family Jazz Festival is bringing in artists who have worked with the biggest names in the industry. From Miles Davis and Stevie Wonder to Euge Groove and Brian McKnight, these artists are masters at bringing in hits. The event will take place on Saturday, June 20th, 2009 at Ganesha Park, Pomona, the home of the Juneteenth National Freedom Day Enshrinement and host of the historical celebration. Food, music, vendors and special activities will be open to the public with free admission from 10:00AM to 6:00PM.
Artists Line-up includes Wayne Linsey (Keys), Sekou Bunch and The Next Level (Bassist), Marcus Coleman (Keys), Ron Powell & the IGABA Drum Ensemble (Percussions), Dr. James Benson & The Gow Dow Experience, and Special Guest Harold Land, Jr. This year’s music direction embraces the legacy of jazz as a part of Black Music Month and the ongoing efforts to educate the public about the significance of the Junetenth National Freedom Day, celebrated all across the country. Founder and Executive Director of Juneteenth America, Inc., John H. Thompson, Sr. comments, “As President of The National Association of Juneteenth Jazz Presenters (NAJJP), its a pleasure to present one of many featured jazz festivals around the country, that are a part of the Celebrate Juneteenth Jazz, African American jazz legacy preservation initiative during Black Music Month.”
Additional activities include the “IC GREEN WORKSHOP: Living Light & Tight on the Planet” presented by Prototypes, Black Infant Health, San Gabriel Valley Best Babies Collaborative and IC Green, from 9AM-10:30AM with a $5 Registration fee. Goody bags & gift cards worth a total of $50 will be given just for attending, with free roundtrip bus coupons available. The Black Porsche Club Car Show returns to the event, presenting their classic and custom Porsche collection.
